Brightening Care for Seniors

The Continuing Care Unit at Crowsnest Pass Health Centre is more than just a care facility. “For the residents, it’s home,” said Diane Nummi, Continuing Care Manager.

The foundation provided over $33,000 in 2014 to make that space even more home-like with the addition of new blinds for all the resident rooms. “The new blinds are attached for safety, which eliminates a potential hazard,” Nummi explained. “By switching from vertical to horizontal roller blinds, the residents can eliminate glare but still let in plenty of sunshine.”

The foundation also funded a renovation to the recreation therapy room, making it and the adjoining dining area brighter and more cheerful. “Overall, the area is far more interactive and even feels a bit roomier, and lightening the rooms encourages residents to participate in activities.” Privacy and comfort are two key elements in providing quality care for seniors. “The foundation has been able to make a big difference on both counts, thanks to the generosity of our community,” Nummi said.
