First $1,000 Gift to Christmas Campaign

The Crowsnest Pass branch of Servus Credit Union began Crowsnest Pass Health Foundation’s 2008 Christmas campaign with a $1,000 donation. Funds raised this year were used to purchase Blanket Warmers for Crowsnest Pass Health Centre. This wonderful enhancement will help keep patients warm and comfortable during their stay at Crowsnest Pass Health Centre.
“A simple thing like a nice warm blanket can make a huge difference to a mother in labour or a patient just out of surgery,” said Val Jasman, Unit Manager at Crowsnest Pass Health Centre.

Cookies Make Dough for Foundation

The new Tim Hortons in Blairmore raised $2,130 for the foundation's Christmas campaign with their popular "Smile" cookies. Everyone at Crowsnest Pass Health Centre has a reason to smile: Pierre Pelletier and Kristine Hovind-Pelletier, owners of the Blairmore location, have pledged their support to the foundation through Smile cookie sales for the next three years.  Gift to Foundation Marks 100 Years of RBC in Blairmore Minimize

Blairmore, October 12, 2006— Today, RBC Financial Group, through RBC Foundation, announced a $10,000 donation to the Crowsnest Pass Health Foundation to mark the 100th anniversary of its branch in Blairmore.

RBC’s donation will be used to expand the Home Care Support for Children Program, which provides support to the parents of special needs children. This program provides in-home nursing support that addresses the specific needs of individual children who require special care. The funds will also help health care providers in the field develop the skills required to meet the needs of these clients.

Being a part of Blairmore for 100 years is an important milestone that gives RBC ample reason to celebrate while extending a heartfelt thank you to the residents of Blairmore for their business. “Our donation to a program that serves the residents of Blairmore and surrounding area is our way of saying, thank you - for your past, present, and continued support. We are proud to be playing a role in helping to build our community,” said Jack Fleming, RBC’s vice-president for Alberta South. “I’d also like to thank the employees of RBC in Blairmore for reaching this impressive milestone. Their commitment to putting our clients and community first is key to our success.”

The first ever Christmas Appeal by the foundation in 2006 raised the $7,500 needed to purchase an Electrocardiograph (ECG) Monitor for the Emergency Room at Crowsnest Pass Health Centre. The local Elks and Royal Purple Lodges kicked off the campaign with a $2,000 donation. The final $1,500 needed to complete the ECG purchase was provided by the Hospital Auxiliary.

The ECG Monitor helps detect potential cardiac problems by recording the electrical activity of the heart. It also records heart rate and regularity, alerting caregivers to any problems with blood flow or structural abnormalities. This is just one example of the vital health care needs your donations help to meet. If you'd like to show your support with a gift, simply click the "To Donate" button above.

Smooth Ride for Continuing Care Minimize

Crowsnest Pass Health Foundation proudly spearheaded efforts to provide a brand new handibus for the 70 Continuing Care residents at Crowsnest Pass Health Centre.

The handibus transports residents to medical apppointments both within and beyond the Crowsnest Pass. It also takes them to family functions, worship services and community events.

Purchased at a cost of $75,779 the handibus is a crucial link in keeping Continuing Care residents active and involved in their community. Safe, comfortable and reliable transportation boosts the residents quality of life. Crowsnest Pass Health Foundation is grateful for grants received from Nickle Family Foundation and F.K.  Morrow Foundation, as well as a grant through the Community Initiatives Program. These grants and tremendous community support made this wonderful enhancement possible.

Long time CJPR Radio morning host Daryl Ferguson helped raise another $23,000 toward the handibus purchase with "Fergie's Rocker-thon." This unique promotion saw Fergie and six more prominent Crowsnest Pass citizens take to their rocking chairs at the Sears/NeatnNifty store on Blairmore's main street. Pledges were collected during the nine hours of rocking and live on-air reports. Many laughs were shared with Fergie's fellow rockers Al Martini, Jane Goodwin, Pat Rypien, Troy Linderman, Jaclyn Maclaren and Dean Ward.
